I've been looking at tons of sites and fleabay etc trying to find some tyres at a good price for my new ZX6 (red and black - not green lol). It's got Bt010's on it which are shagged out - the rear is completely square. Iwas out the other day and had some pretty hairy slides.
I used the BT014 on my R6 which was pretty good but then had supercorsas on the old hack RF and, even though they were used track tyres, they stuck like shit to the shovel, I was doing knee down on the hack round stockley park no probs.
Other than the D207 (crap) Idon't have any other manufacturers tyres (recent) experience.
So whats your verdict on tyres?
I'm looking for a 120/60 and a 170/60 rear.
One other thing - on the R6 I changed the front profile from 60 to 70. Has anyone done this on the zx6?

I went from a 65 to 70 and i was told i wouldnt notice the difference and to be honest i havent really been able to tell the difference since i havent been chucking it about too much in the corners over winter.
Hey every one.I ride a xt660 supermoto so im no expert on sports bike tyres but iv gone through a fair few pairs in the last 7 months and out of all of them the best have been the continetal road attack. They have unreal grip in the wet and the dry.See'ing as your all sports riders you mite want to try the spot attack instead.I recon youd be happy.

HI M8 be carful of going from 110 to a 120 on the front u might melt your front hugger
i did this on my R6 and got lots more fun out the front end,,
D'yu mean going from 60 to 70? I've been on a few sites including the Kawiforums site and posted a query there - the gen reaction is that the 70 will go on ok, and it performs a lot better as with the R6. I dropped the yokes on my R6 to keep the geometry right and will prob do the same with the zx6.
Next thing is to get the bugger to go a bit quicker!!

LOL I was just looking at a viper can on fleabay and was waiting to see if it was worthwhile bidding on. Some people just loose control when it gets to the end. You can get a new one for 95 squid and the final bid that won it was 62 plus 15 quid postage!!! Once it got past 60 (inc post) I let it go. Might as well buy a bleedin' new one LOl

Chris the can will make a world of difference. Especially on our ZX's when I put the can on mine it made the bike so much more urgent those fat standard cans are so restrictive it's unreal. Then possibly one tooth off the front sprocket and go two up on the back. Should make things a little more aggresive.
Ebay's try hammersnipe to win that auction in the dying seconds
As a supplier I wouldn't suggest changing anything with regards to tyre sizes - as a rider I did lol and to be honest I think with the 70 wall the tyres turn in better this was with a 180 rear, all said the profile probably makes all the difference Michelin Pilot are much more rounder than Dunlops for instance.
Yeah well I bought the Diablos in the end - boy were those people at Essential Rubber paranoid or what, I had to sign a thing saying they didn't take any responsibility for me putting a 70 section on the front!!!!
The 70 went on okay and runs fine except when there's a lot of gravel etc around which sticks in the tread and scratches inside the fender.
Be nice to try em' out when it stops raining if the temperature stays up. I have had my knee on the deck with them briefly in the freezin' cold so they seem pretty good.
Got me some half price sparky knee sliders (titanium) aswell so that should be fun on warm summer nights round Heathrow. YAY

they were saying that they'd had insurance co's saying they'd write off people who had the "wrong" tyre on they're bike and they were just covering thereselves. It seems it's another little thing they can use to get out of paying!!! (insurance co.s I mean)
I did loads of research before making a decision and also my own experience with my R6 in the past.
I don't hate insurance co.s quite like I do the police but they're on the list. LOL
I would look into the bike spec. The Hyabusa for instance only has the BT56 J do to the speeds but I believe there is no spec that dictates you must have that tyre, apart from anything else it would be a mergers & Monopoly thing, we have the right of choice. that said with the corporate manslaughter charges coming into effect this year !!!!
I've certainly read about the tyre swap on the R6... it's very well documented and known to improve handling. Might be worth a quick surf on google so see if anyone else has done it on the ZX... if they have then some geek would have written it all up.
At the end of the day, it's all about feel. If it feels OK when you're pushing the front end then give it a go. Changing the geometry on the other hand has been know to lull you into a false sense of security giving a feeling of more confidence and then letting go...
then again... you CAN ride so you're ring-piece will be a good judge what happens when you push the front end. Remember many people never actually do that (push the front end). If it's any good why not write it up a bit and we can post it on here for others.
Diabolo's are very good but I personally prefer the super-corsa's. Not much cop in the wet though although once they warm up (which is pretty quick) they're not bad.
