Chinese Imports

Been looking to get my lad a 125 to get him started, and wonder if anyone has any idea what these are like?

Been looking at this pair here, as they just fall within our budget (just)

Cant find a CG within our price range, unless we wanna settle for a hub brake at the front (No chance), and the GS125s seem to be rare, so we been toying with the idea of one of these. These at least have a decent front brake, are brand new, and Im informed buy the suppliers have parts freely available, and.................they're our kind of price, AND they BRAND SPANKING NEW,lol

Even with the cost of delivery, registration (THEY do it for you), tax, No plate ect ect, they STILL come in at under the price of a 6 or 7 year old CG or GS.

At the end of the day hes 21 in 5 months, and after that will take his test and move up, so these look ideal :)

any advice please fellas would be appreciated ;)

HI, I KNOW YOU SAY THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE BUT THAT COULD JUST MEAN THEY CAN GET HOLD OF THEM FROM JAPAN, MEANING A LENGTHY WAIT!!!!

AND THE RE-SALE VALUE IN MY OPINION WOULD BE RUBBISH AS THE ONLY REAL SELLING POINT FOR THESE BIKES IS THE FACT THEY'RE BRAND NEW.

I KNOW IT MAY NOT HAVE GEARS, BUT A 125 SCOOTER WOULD BE MUCH BETTER IF IT'S ONLY FOR A FEW MONTHS. HE'D STILL BE ABLE TO LEARN ROAD CRAFT, AND GENERAL ROAD BIKE RIDING, IT'S BE JUST AS QUICK, IF NOT QUICKER THAN WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT, ASWELL AS THIS RIDING AN AUTOMATIC AT SLOW SPEEDS COULD BE BETTER FOR THROTTLE CONTROL TOO, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THEY'RE MUCH MORE DESIRABLE AND THEREFORE WOULD HAVE A MUCH BETTER CHANCE AT RE-SALE! (ALSO THOSE BIKES ARE HARD TO INSURE IF THEY CAN'T FIND THE MAKE/MODEL ETC ON THEIR SYSTEMS)

IF HE CAN'T RIDE AT ALL WITH GEARS YET, THEN THE CBT WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT ANY WAY, AND WHEN HE DOES HIS FUL TEST, HE'LL HAVE DAYS ON A GEARED BIKE TO COME UP TO SPEED!

HOPE THIS HELPS AT ALL!

Thanx for that m8, appreciated.

Plan was for him to ride it until he passed his test, then pass it on to his sister, so at least we'd get best part of 2 years out of it; so the resale value wouldnt be that much of an issue. What concerns me mostly is the parts availability tbh, especially if it gets slung down the street.

He wont go for a scooter tho, he wants a "proper" bike.

Think u threw up a good point about insurance as well, I will deffo look into that before we commit to buy.

Thanx again mate

CONSIDER AN OLD YAMAHA TZR, OR A HONDA NSR. THE OLDER ONES COULD BE PICKED UP CHEAPLY ENOUGH, AND THEY'VE STILL GOT SOME STREET CRED. PARTS ARE PRETTY EASY TO SOURCE TOO.

or a real honda cg125? really cheap. Bullet proof and parts are easy to find for them. Really easy to ride also.

If it was me i'd stay away from them mate. you get what you pay for and at £500-£600 for brand new then i dont think it WILL last a year let alone 2.

go for second hand 125cc, theres alot out there to go for, dont think they would be a good choice. just trying to help you out in the long run mate.

but its up to you

Think we gonna go along with what you guys are saying to be honest.

Hubby has now Found a 2005 Suzuki EN125-2 now for 700 squids, only done 2500 miles or so, does have some damage to the fuel tank, and the fairing.

Got a couple of photos of the damage, would you guys think this would be easy enough to straighten out, and get it all looking peachy again?

I wouldnt bother fixing that up IMO. But if you really want to you could search ebay and get a new nose cone, but i wouldnt bother about the tank.

We got a Suzuki GN 125 in the end......1996,full years MOT, 10 months tax, 2 owners from new, in VERY good condition for £575 :):)

At the end of the day it's just to take his test @21 in 7 months time, and hopefully then he will get most of his money back on it.

The other side as well is, at least if he slings it down the road it aint cost him an arm and a leg eh? ;)
