streetmoto

has anyone had any experience with kmt duke 2`s? i cant race sm no more cos my backs shot. but i still wanna streetmoto. i think the duke looks cool and the lc4 motors ok. but i wanna know what they`re like to live with? its either that or a full on moto. but it seems a bit of a waste if it never see`s the track. opinions welcome. cheers peeps

my dad has just got one... he loves it. really really nice looking, and its comfortable at high speeds (well 90 but its a SM lol). My brother has a Husky 570r and thats obviously high tuned and the ktm stays with it, and is alot more comfortable. Hope that helps slightly

To get the same sort of buzz that you got out of your race bike will require some bike mods. Most obviously, race cans and re-jet. As standard they're a little dull.

Replacing the collector for a Y-piece is expansive and not really worth it.

Oh, and go +2 on the rear sprocket, too.

i`m thinking of buying secondhand. i`d rather let the mods be paid for buy the previous owner. i used to do alot of mods for mates with the lc4 motors. although saying that. i had ago on a 660 the other day. i was shocked at how much power that thing has as standard (flame arrestor removed) the problem is, i struggle to kick the damn things over now. its starting to look like i`ll be going under the knife. a back op might change everything for me. wether its for good or worse remains to be seen!

Have you thought about the KTM 625 SMC.

I've got the 625 SXC which I race in an enduro series... It's big compared to some but it also kicks arse. Amongst my collection of wheels I've got a set of super moto's which I use on the street and this is how most people see my bike.

It's been tweaked a little and of course fully de-restricted (the usual shit, flame arrestor removed and jets changed etc)... but it goes like shit off a stick ask any of the AWOL boys who saw me out at Mallory park on it.

It's good for around 110 mph on the road and pulls power wheelies off the throttle in second with no problem. If I really want to liven it up, I put 102 octane race fuel in it and changed the rear sprocket for anything from +2, +5, +7 to +10 then it's just plain fucking mental mental. This is the set up for off road racing incidentally.

Even with the 42 tooth rear sprocket I have no trouble at all keepking up with sports bikes to about 80 or 90. Std SM rear sprok is 40.

Got about 5000 miles on the clock now and had no reliability probs what so ever except the dash bulb (neutral, high beam etc) blowing just about every time you look at them. I don't even bother to replace them now. Been riding this bike hard from day 1 and every time it comes back for more. Parts/mtnc cheap and piece of piss.

Hope that helps.

I race in the CHEC enduro series.. over 30's also some of the Cotswolds series...

Prefer Enduro to MX as the terrain is more varied and I get most of my points through fitness. Mostly round the south east of England.

They got some funny rules about the tyres we're allowed to use which suck. Many of the races we are restricted to 'trials' rear tyre and MX front. Not bad in the dry but a nightmare on a heavy bike in the wet. The alternative is a penalty system of 3 points per lap. Prefer the full on MX tyres like AC10's and S12 combo which on my bike is awesome.

I do fancy having a go also at SM... so this coming year might venture into that area too for the grin factor.

Also do quite a bit of trail riding though that is getting less and less cos DEFRA are gradually closing off all our routes.

Other than that I'm one of the track day junkies with R1FAN and co. using a GSX-R 750.

cool sm is a vicious sport. the rest of the grid are ruthless which makes the tarmac sections very interesting. to be fair, you off road boys seem to be the bollox in sm. i personally find that i`m shit off road. i`m gonna make a point of doing some green laneing and maybe an off road experience when my backs sorted. unfortunatley, theres not alot of places for it around here. i wanna ridge ride salisbury plains one day. give sm a go, you`ll love it. just be careful, cos i garuntee you`ll get hooked

Yeah the SM looks fun, I've tried most bike related sports and SM is the only one I've not really had a go at because I've never had the chance. The dirt riding for sure makes a huge difference with tarmac riding. I had a couple of big fast slides on the GSXR last year and I put the fact that both I and the bike survived unscathed purely down to the dirt riding.

I do regularly get the back end out on the KTM in SM trim, especially in the wet which is nearly always done on purpose and it feels great so I guess that's the nearest I got to SM riding. The thing I love about it is that unlike the GSXR I actually rider harder and more aggressively in the wet on the KTM cos it's hilarious and feels so easy to control.

It'll still pick up the front straight from the off in the pissing rain too which is always a good laugh when you're riding with mates on sports bikes.
